Environment and Sustainability
At Tracasa Global, we work on the development of innovative geospatial solutions in terms of sustainability and environmental care.
In our work for the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment, we provide consulting and environmental data collection, design and dissemination services, with information from 38 European states, creating applications open for consultation and use by the public.
These include the European Air Quality Index. This application allows one to consult air quality data collected by more than 4,500 stations across Europe, and combine it with that from other data sources, such as the CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service). The application constitutes an official source for air quality data on our continent, informing citizens about air pollution and sharing tips and information on this matter.
Another application developed by Tracasa Global for the European Environment Agency and the European Commission is called Climate Change Impacts, a set of maps and indicators that present scenarios on how Europe could be affected during this century by major climate hazards, such as droughts, floods, forest fires and sea level rises. These maps are based on different greenhouse gas emissions scenarios and climate models.
The European Environment and Health Atlas, meanwhile, is another solution designed and developed for European institutions. This is a Web application to check air quality, noise levels, and numbers of green spaces, among other aspects, anywhere on the continent. It is an interactive tool, and one of its most attractive features is its Check Your Place section. With it, one can select any point in Europe on an interactive map and verify its levels according to ten indicators (seven environmental and three related to health services). The results for each area are presented both numerically and graphically through layers of information appearing on the map.
Another of Tracasa Global’s developments in this area is the Adaptation Panel, a webpage featuring information on climate risks and impacts, as well as existing adaptation policies and measures at the European level. The highly visual page includes interactive maps with information on aspects like vulnerability and exposure to climate hazards and adaptation policies and actions.
Finally, Tracasa Global’s work with the MapMyTree application is worth highlighting. This Web application allows any European person or entity to report and record the trees they plant, geo-referencing them on a map and adding the most relevant information on each plantation. On its main page MapMyTree presents the number of planted trees that have been reported so far, a general map of the European continent on which one can view plantations by geographical area, and a space in which anyone, or any entity, is encouraged to report a new one.
